What is work?

I've been in a somewhat reflective mood in the last few weeks, and one subject in particular has been the focus of my musings more than anything else. In this modern time, when the news is dominated by AI replacing everyone's jobs it seems silly to continue to measure output as a continued completion of repetitive tasks. Don't misunderstand me, that sort of stuff is necessary, but it's no longer sufficient. Maybe the definition of work should start to focus on higher level activity rather than just the mundane.
